
Natural gas extractor Gazprom is set to invest RUR10bn ($288m) in order to launch commercial gas production from the Kirinskoye field in the Sakhalin region of eastern Russia.
The company said that pre-development of the Kirinskoye field will continue, including the drilling of production wells. Commercial gas production is expected to be launched in 2014.

Between 2009 and 2013, the company invested RUR250bn ($7.15bn) in the region. Projects included the construction of the Sakhalin – Khabarovsk – Vladivostok gas transmission system (GTS), pre-development of the Kirinskoye gas and condensate field (Sakhalin III). The Russian firm also constructed a gas pipeline from the onshore processing facility of the Kirinskoye field to the Sakhalin main compressor station of the Sakhalin – Khabarovsk – Vladivostok GTS.
Between 2008 and 2013, Gazprom channeled over RUR3bn ($86m) to supply gas to the Sakhalin Region.
The new plans involve constructing the gas branch and the Nogliki GDS, as well as the inter-settlement gas pipelines connecting the Nogliki GDS with the Nogliki GDP and the Nogliki GDS with the Nysh settlement.
The company’s investment plans were revealed in a meeting hosted at its headquarters between the company’s management committee chairman Alexey Miller and the Sakhalin Region governor Alexander Khoroshavin. During the meeting, it was decided that this year Gazprom would build a CNG filling station in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, the first one in the region. The parties also discussed issues pertaining to Gazprom’s participation in social projects in the region.
