Norway-based Det norske oljeselskap has awarded a $44.75m contract to Transocean Offshore (North Sea) for the lease of semi-submersible drilling rig Transocean Arctic.
The contract was awarded by Det norske on behalf of the partnerships in PL 203 (Alvheim field) and PL 150 (Volund field).

Included in the contract is drilling of four wells in the Alvheim field, expected to be completed in 250 days.
Drilling will begin during December 2016, and Transocean will drill one exploration well (West Volund in licence 150B), in addition to three production wells (two wells in licence 150 and one in licence 203 / 088BS respectively).
The harsh environment midwater drilling rig Transocean Arctic is also certified for drilling wells in the Barents Sea and under high-pressure and high-temperature (HPHT) conditions.
Alvheim is located on Block 25/4 in the North Sea and is set to be an oil hub for future discoveries in the area. Production at the field started in 2008.

By GlobalDataThe Volund field is located on Block 24/9 in the North Sea and began production in 2010 from three production wells.
In 2012, an additional horizontal well draining the north-west flank of the injection complex was drilled and became operational in January 2013.
Det norske became the operator of both the fields after Marathon Oil sold its interests on the NCS in 2014.
