DP vessel

Norwegian company Ulstein has introduced the new S182 design dynamically positioned (DP) multipurpose construction vessel for shallow water operations.

The new CAPEX-friendly DP vessel has the capacity to support various offshore operations, including cable laying and offshore construction.

The vessel houses a deck area, accommodation and station and is capable of supporting various operations such as dive support, rock installation, salvage works.

Ulstein’s S182 has the capability to operate autonomously in remote shallow water and offshore areas due to the mooring and DP2 (optionally DP3) station keeping capability.

Ulstein design and solutions managing director Edwin van Leeuwen said: "Given the CAPEX target that we have set ourselves, we decided that speed will be a result of the design rather than a design driver as it is in most designs.

"Speed requirements often have a big impact on installed power, easily spiraling up vessel CAPEX."

The vessel is capable of performing shallow water DP operations including beaching and also features a large open work deck and a spacious cargo hold below deck, with a 10,000dwt capacity.

The side of the vessel can accommodate a main offshore crane of up to 400t. In addition, a passage way below main deck is created between aft casings and accommodation.

Leeuwen added: "As operational areas we mainly target South East Asia, Middle East and Africa, but the vessel will of course also be capable to work in the North Sea, where we see a good market for cable lay operations."
