The company said the well is 109km from the municipality of Aracaju, and 21km south-east of the Barra accumulation, which is also the location of well 1-BRSA-851-SES (1-SES-158 – Barra).

Well -SES-158 – Barra is said to be the first significant gas discovery in ultra-deep waters of the Sergipe-Alagoas Basin.

The oil well is located 10 km north-west of the Farfan well.

Petrobras encountered traces of oil during drilling of the well Farfan. Electric log analysis and fluid samples were collected from cable tests.

The company said that a 44m hydrocarbon column, of which 40m is formed by porous sandstones containing light hydrocarbons, was detected at a depth of 5,582m.

Drilling will continue up to a depth of 6,000m. The company intends to analyse the rocks and fluids obtained from the well.

Petrobras will then submit the appraisal plan to the National Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANP).
