
ShaMaran Petroleum has announced positive test results from the Atrush-2 appraisal well located in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
Spud on 23 May 2012, the well reached the planned total depth of 1,750m in 49 days and is situated 3.1km to the east and downdip of the Atrush-1 discovery well.

The company said the Jurassic Barsarin-Sargelu-Alan-Mus (BSAM) reservoir, oil down to, was found 97m deeper than those encountered in AT-1 well.
Oil bearing reservoir intervals were found within the Jurassic Adaiyah and the upper part of the Butmah formation.
The company achieved rates totaling 42,212 barrels of oil per day as separate cased hole drill stem tests were conducted over three of the formations in the BSAM reservoir.
ShaMaran president and CEO Pradeep Kabra said the Atrush 2 well results prove the production capability of the BSAM reservoir and the discovery of additional resource potential of the Butmah and Adaiyah.

The company also conducted separate tests in the Butmah (open hole) and Adaiyah (cased hole) formations.
ShaMaran Petroleum said the highly fractured upper part of the Butmah flowed up to a maximum of 1,450 barrels of fluid per day under nitrogen lift.
Towards the end of the test the well was producing 100% 9 degree API oil. A reservoir zone within the Adaiyah anhydrite flowed up to 650 barrels of oil per day of 11 degree API dry oil.
In August 2012, the second phase of the 3D seismic acquisition was completed for the entire block and tender process in ongoing for the lease of an extended well test facility, which will be connected to the AT-1 in 2013.
The Atrush Block is operated by the joint-venture company General Exploration Partners which holds an 80% working interest in the block while the remaining interest is held by Marathon Oil KDV, a unit of Marathon Oil.
