Statoil Petroleum has awarded a contract to Foster Wheeler to perform pre-front end engineering for the Snohvit future development project at Statoil’s LNG facility on Melkoya Island, Norway.

Under the contract, the work will consist of concept design activities to support the finalisation of the development concept and the plant’s capacity for production expansion at the Melkoya LNG facility.

The Snohvit LNG facility, with a design capacity of 4.2 million tonnes per year, processes gas transported through a 143km pipeline from the subsea facilities on the Snohvit and Albatross fields.

Statoil has informed Foster Wheeler that further releases of pre-FEED work to Foster Wheeler under the existing contract are likely to be made during 2011, depending on development options selected by Statoil.

The value of the project was not disclosed.
