Technip Energies has secured a contract from Long Son Petrochemicals (LSP) to enhance the Long Son Petrochemicals facility on Long Son Island, Vietnam.
Under the contract, Technip Energies will provide engineering and procurement services, site assistance and proprietary burners for the cracking furnaces at the petrochemical complex.

The enhancement project will involve converting the current steam cracker from naphtha to ethane feedstock utilising Technip Energies’ proprietary ethylene technologies. These include the Ultra Selective Conversion furnace design and the Heat-Integrated Rectifier System.
The initiative aims to integrate high volumes of ethane into the plant’s existing naphtha and propane feedstock streams.
By doing so, LSP intends to increase feedstock efficiency and reduce costs, while seeking to reduce carbon emissions and improve the facility’s resilience in changing market conditions.
The conversion represents one of the first recent transitions from a naphtha-based steam cracker to ethane globally, reflecting broader trends among petrochemical producers towards diversification and reduced-carbon feedstocks.
Steam crackers serve a central function within petrochemical complexes, processing hydrocarbons such as naphtha, liquefied petroleum gas or ethane into ethylene and propylene.
These materials are subsequently used in the production of plastics, packaging, textiles and various consumer items. Modifications that enhance feedstock flexibility can influence the entire production chain.
The current project extends the existing relationship between Technip Energies and LSP.
Technip Energies handled the engineering, procurement and construction of the site’s cracker unit from 2018 to 2023.
Technip Energies’ senior vice-president, ethylene, polyolefins & fertilisers product line, Stéphane Mespoulhès, said: “We are pleased to be entrusted again by Long Son Petrochemicals in the development of this strategic complex. This renewed trust builds on the successful delivery of the original cracker, and this new project demonstrates how our ethylene technologies and execution capabilities can help clients adapt their facilities to evolving market dynamics while enhancing flexibility and competitiveness.”
In February, Technip Energies, alongside its partners JGC and Samsung Heavy Industries, secured a contract from Mozambique Rovuma Venture for the Coral Norte floating liquefied natural gas project.
