The Mero 3 and 4 projects plan to develop subsea pipelines and associated SURF infrastructure in the Santos Basin of Brazil at depths ranging from 1,850m to 2,100m.

The scope of work involves installing pipelines for Mero 3, which features floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel the Marechal Duque de Caxias, and Mero 4 (FPSO Alexandre de Gusmão).

The Mero field’s operations are managed by a consortium led by Petrobras, which holds 38.6%, in partnership with Shell Brasil and TotalEnergies, each with 19.3%.

China National Petroleum Company and China National Offshore Oil Corporation each own 9.65%, while Pré-Sal Petróleo holds 3.5% and serves as the contract manager, representing the Brazilian Government in the non-contracted area.

ABL’s responsibilities include reviewing and approving technical documents and operational engineering documentation.

The company will conduct suitability surveys of the proposed fleet, oversee critical operations onshore and offshore, authorise environmental limits, and participate in hazard identification and hazard and operability study meetings.

ABL’s Brazilian office is tasked with executing these responsibilities as the transportation and installation work is currently in progress.

ABL Brazil regional director Andreas Theophanatos said: “We are pleased to support Subsea7 in this important next phase development of the Santos basin.

“Our track record as MWS on Mero 1 and 2 demonstrates ABL’s experience in the Mero Field and our contribution to the safe and successful installation of SURF infrastructure in Brazil’s deep waters.”

Since acquiring London Offshore Consultants in 2020, ABL has utilised leading MWS expertise to support more than 14 FPSO transportation and installation campaigns.

It also has significant experience in Buzios, Brazil’s largest oilfield, and maintains additional surveyor and consultancy locations in Santarém, Itajaí and Salvador.
