The American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) has announced it will classify a series of self-elevating drilling units (SEDUs) for Bahrain-based Silver Eagle Global.
According to Silver Eagle, the self-propelled design of the SEDUs can handle work at greater water depths. These SEDU units also work in difficult environments.

The SEDU series uses a modular cantilever and a high-speed jacking system.
Technical services provider ABS said it will initially classify two vessels with an option for two additional vessels. It expects to build a series of similar vessels after the initial order.
Global Offshore senior vice-president Matthew Tremblay said: “These unique units offer the flexibility to adapt to the mission and payload. The large deck and cantilever are innovative design features, while self-propulsion and the four legs allows the vessel to get on the job site independently.”
Silver Eagle has awarded a contract to PetroVietnam Marine Shipyard to build the vessels for an undisclosed sum.
