Tanzania announced plans for a consortium of oil companies to begin construction of the $30bn liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in 2022.

The liquefied natural gas processing plant will be located in the Lindi region.

DEA approves Noreco’s acquisition of Shell’s Danish assets for $1.9bn

Danish Energy Agency (DEA) approved Norwegian Energy Company (Noreco)’s proposed acquisition of Shell’s Danish upstream assets for $1.9bn.

Under the agreement signed last October, Shell agreed to sell its shares in Shell Olie-og Gasudvinding Danmark (SOGU) through its affiliate Shell Overseas Holdings.

SOGU owns a 36.8% non-operating interest in the Danish Underground Consortium (DUC).

Stonepeak to provide $1.3bn investment in Venture Global’s LNG site

Venture Global LNG and Stonepeak Infrastructure Partners signed definitive agreements, under which Stonepeak will exclusively provide a $1.3bn equity investment in the ten million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) Calcasieu Pass LNG export facility.

The LNG export facility is located in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, US.

The total committed capital to finance the construction of Calcasieu Pass, along with the ongoing development of Venture Global’s 20Mtpa Plaquemines LNG and 20Mtpa Delta LNG projects, currently totals $2.bn.


Canadian Natural signs agreement to acquire Devon for $2.8bn

Oil and gas producer Canadian Natural Resources signed an agreement to acquire the assets of Devon Canada in an all-cash deal of C$3.8bn ($2.8bn).

Expected to close on 27 June, the transaction is subject to closing conditions and regulatory approvals.

Devon’s land and production sites are situated in Western Canada and lie within Canadian Natural’s core areas.


Siemens to deliver centrifugal compression solution for gas processing

German engineering giant Siemens has won a contract to supply three residue compression trains for two 250 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) cryogenic gas plants in the Delaware Basin.

The Delaware glass plant is a major producer of reciprocating compression equipment in the region.

Recognising the benefits of centrifugal compression, the customer approached Siemens for a fully integrated, turnkey solution that includes compressors, motors, variable frequency drives and associated process equipment.


Brazil issues injunction suspending divestments of Petrobras units

Brazilian Supreme Court issued an injunction that suspends some major divestments by state-run oil firm Petroleo Brasileiro.

The Supreme Court’s decision will suspend the sale of Petrobras’ TAG pipeline unit and eight refineries. The suspension also includes the sale of its Araucaria Nitrogenous fertiliser business, reported Reuters.

It is expected that the sale of these eight refineries would generate $15bn.


Senex Energy begins commissioning of Roma North processing facility

Senex Energy started commissioning of the Roma North natural gas processing facility in the western Surat Basin in Australia.

The commissioning involves safety and quality checks and leads the way for the facility’s start-up and steady-state operations. Senex has achieved mechanical completion of the facility, including four gas compressors with an initial processing capacity of around six petajoules (PJ) a year.

Construction work on the Roma North gas processing facility and an associated pipeline began last November. The contract to build the infrastructure was awarded to Wasco (Australia).


Pemex to build $8bn Dos Bocas refinery as government scraps tender

The Government of Mexico announced that state-owned firm Pemex will build the Dos Bocas refinery in the Port of Dos Bocas, Tabasco.

The move is contrary to the previous plans of acquiring the 340,000bpd refinery built by foreign firms with expertise in handling similar projects.

In a press conference, Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador stated that the tender to construct the project becomes void as the foreign firms did not meet the requirements for the tender.


Accenture and Gasunie deploy digital GTMS to manage Dutch gas grid

European gas infrastructure firm N.V. Nederlandse Gasunie and professional services company Accenture implemented a new digital natural gas transport management system (GTMS) to facilitate safe and secure operations of the Dutch gas grid.

Gasunie manages and maintains the infrastructure for large-scale transport and storage of gas in the Netherlands and the northern region of Germany.

The new digital system operates at the critical and complex gas infrastructure of the Netherlands. It is designed to better control the Dutch gas network via which Gasunie transports natural gas, hydrogen and green gas from biomass.


Chevron buys Pasadena refinery from Petrobras in $350m deal

Chevron USA (CUSA) completed the $350m acquisition of a refinery in Pasadena, Texas, from Petrobras America, a subsidiary of Brazilian state-owned oil and gas producer Petrobras.

Chevron reached an agreement with Petrobras in January to purchase all the outstanding shares and equity interests of Pasadena Refining System, Inc. (PRSI). The deal includes the refinery and PRSI.

The acquisition of the PRSI’s 466-acre Pasadena complex adds a second refinery to CUSA’s Gulf Coast downstream business. The other refinery owned by the downstream business is located in Pascagoula, Mississippi.
