IT jobs accounted for a 4.49% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in August 2021, registering an increase of 0.22% over the last three-month average share.
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations leads by classification in August 2021
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in North America with a share of 47.47% in August 2021, a 7.27% drop over the previous month. Miscellaneous Computer Occupations came in next, claiming a share of 13.24% in August 2021, marking a 5.32% month-on-month decline. In the third place was Computer and Information Analysts with a share of 13.1% in August 2021, a 12.82% rise from July 2021.

Top five oil & gas companies in North America’s IT recruitment activity in August 2021
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 14.83% in the overall IT recruitment activity of North America’s oil & gas industry during August 2021 over previous month.
Exxon Mobil posted 51 IT jobs in August 2021 and registered a decline of 37.04% over the previous month, followed by TotalEnergies with 35 jobs and a 40% growth. Marathon Petroleum with 34 IT jobs and PPG Industries with 33 jobs, recorded an 8.11% drop and a 26.67% drop, respectively, while Baker Hughes Holdings recorded a 19.05% increase with 25 job postings during August 2021.
Country-wise composition of IT hiring in North America’s oil & gas industry
The US commanded a leading presence in the region’s oil & gas industry IT hiring activity with an 88.54% share in August 2021, an 8.18% increase over July 2021. Canada featured next with an 8.04% share, down 22.86% over the previous month. Mexico recorded a 3.42% share, a drop of 41.03% compared with July 2021.
Junior Level job postings dominate in August 2021
Junior Level jobs held a share of 61.46%, flat growth from July 2021. Mid Level positions with a 28.57% share, registered a growth of 11.63% compared with the previous month.
In the third place was Entry Level job ads with a 9.97% share, down 2.9% over July 2021.
