A recently granted patent (Publication Number: US11885216B2) discloses a method and apparatus for completing a subterranean formation with a borehole and production structure. The method involves conveying a perforator assembly containing shaped charges and tracer packages into the borehole to form tunnels in the production structure. The tracer package includes fluid production tracer materials and a tracer injector with a gas generating material. Upon detonation of the shaped charges, the gas generating material is activated, injecting the fluid production tracer material into the formation to associate with resident fluids.

The patent also details an apparatus for marking a specific location in a subterranean formation, comprising shaped charges generating perforating jets, releasing thermal energy and shock waves upon detonation. A tracer package with fluid production tracer materials and a tracer injector, positioned near the shaped charges, injects the tracer material into the formation using high-pressure gas generated by a gas-generating material initiated by the shaped charges. The gas-generating material can be a propellant, with the fluid production tracer material either dispersed within it or physically separate from it, providing a versatile and efficient method for marking locations in subterranean formations.
