A recently granted patent (Publication Number: US11994019B2) discloses a method for forming perforations in a casing placed in a well to optimize the distribution of proppant and associated slurry. The method involves utilizing settling data, slip parameters, and computing devices to calculate initial flow rates of the proppant through the perforations and casing. By employing a variable proppant concentration model, the method aims to achieve a uniform placement of proppant and fluid in the formation by determining the size, orientation, and location of the perforations based on normalized flow rates. Subsequently, slurry comprising proppant and fluid is pumped into the casing, through the perforations, and into the formation.

Furthermore, the patent includes additional steps such as calculating ingestion areas for each perforation, determining ingestion area proppant concentration, and calculating perforation proppant concentration based on the ingestion area and slip parameters. The method also involves calculating dynamic proppant perforation flow rates as a function of perforation proppant concentration, corresponding areas of the perforations, and exit velocities. By performing a mass balance, the normalized flow rates of the proppant through the perforations are obtained based on the dynamic proppant perforation flow rates, ensuring an efficient and effective distribution of proppant and fluid in the formation.
