Ayatsil Heavy Oil Field, Mexico

Ayatsil is a producing heavy oil field located in shallow water in Mexico and is operated by Petroleos Mexicanos. The field is located in block A-0032-Ayatsil, with water depth of 358 feet.

An expansion project is associated with the Ayatsil, namely Ayatsil Development. This project is currently in the approval stage.

Production from Ayatsil

The Ayatsil heavy oil field recovered 15.04% of its total recoverable reserves, with peak production expected in 2022. The peak production will approximately 106.97 thousand bpd of crude oil and condensate and 7 Mmcfd of natural gas. Based on economic assumptions, production will continue until the field reaches its economic limit in 2068. The field currently accounts for approximately 4% of the country’s daily output.


Remaining recoverable reserves

The field is expected to recover 584.85 Mmboe, comprised of 581.31 Mmbbl of crude oil & condensate and 21.27 bcf of natural gas reserves. Ayatsil heavy oil field reserves accounts 1.28% of total remaining reserves of producing heavy oil fields globally.
