By GlobalDataThis feat highlights the teamwork and expertise of GAIL’s engineers across operations, maintenance, project management, and safety teams, under the guidance of their leadership.
The polypropylene unit’s commissioning not only strengthens India’s burgeoning petrochemical sector but also underscores EIL’s capability in executing vital energy projects efficiently.
Recently, EIL has entered into a collaboration agreement with Honeywell, which was formalised during India Energy Week 2026 in Goa.
The event was attended by Hardeep Singh Puri, the Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas for the Government of India.
This partnership aims to combine EIL’s engineering and project management capabilities with Honeywell’s global technological expertise to provide efficient and environmentally friendly solutions for the refining industry.
The agreement builds upon EIL’s development of EngSulfTG, a homegrown Tail Gas Treating Technology that enables sulphur recovery rates in refineries to reach up to 99.9% by weight. This technology supports cleaner refinery operations in line with strict environmental standards.
The collaboration is in line with EIL’s emphasis on technological partnerships, sustainability, and the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
In 2024, GAIL announced an investment of Rs600bn ($7.2bn) to develop an ethane cracker and its derivative plants in Madhya Pradesh.
This new complex aims to enhance production capacity with the addition of several upcoming facilities, including the GAIL (India) Sehore Ethylene Glycol Plant, the GAIL (India) Sehore Ethylene Plant, GAIL (India) Sehore Polyethylene Plant 1, GAIL (India) Sehore Polyethylene Plant 2, and the GAIL (India) Sehore Propylene Plant.
However, detailed capacity information for these plants is not yet available or reported.
