The latest move comes due to the ‘Oil Mines Industrial Security Rules’ devised upon LUKOIL’s own initiative and adopted by the Rostechnadzor, the supervisory body of the Government of Russia.
The modernisation involves the complete reconstruction of all three Yarega oil mines.
Also included under the project is the modernisation of both the surface and subterranean facilities.
According to LUKOIL, reconstruction of pithead buildings, sectional ventilation shafts, steam-injection and extraction wells, as well as underground complexes, is also planned as part of the modernisation.

By GlobalDataA key part of the project is the reconstruction of the ‘Yarega Oil Treatment Plant – Ukhta Oil Delivery and Acceptance Point’ pipeline.
This pipeline, according to the company, is the only way to transport the crude hydrocarbons produced at the Yarega field to the pipeline network of ‘Transneft’.
LUKOIL stated: “Modernisation of this strategic facility will include, inter alia, constructing crossovers between the main and standby pipeline strings, equipping the line pipe with shut-off valves, installing EC&I equipment, establishing a communication line for the telemetry and remote control systems and leak detection, setting up alarm system and video surveillance.”
In 2017, LUKOIL produced one million tonnes (Mt) of oil at the Yarega field.
Last month, LUKOIL implemented an ‘oil-associated gas’ utilisation project to be used as an energy source for drilling at the Sredne-Nazymskoye field in Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug (KhMAO)-Yugra, Russia.
In May this year, LUKOIL announced that it has donated more than RUB652m ($9.3m) in 22 regions in the country to support Covid-19 response efforts.
