UK-based engineering and project management company Amec Foster Wheeler has secured a detailed engineering contract by Felguera for the expansion of the Zeebrugge liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Belgium.

The contract is expected to be delivered over the next 15 months.

Amec Foster Wheeler Asia, Middle East, Africa & Southern Europe group president Roberto Penno said: "We are a leading engineering provider in Europe and look forward to applying our significant technical expertise on this strategically important project for Belgium."

Under the contract terms, the company will provide services including detailed engineering of the boil-off gas recovery system and associated facilities.

In addition Amec’s scope of work will include the inter-connection with the new LNG storage tank and the existing plant facilities.

Owned and operated by Fluxys LNG from Belgium, the Zeebrugge LNG terminal is situated on a 30ha site in the outer port of Zeebrugge.

The terminal’s overall EPC expansion will comprise the design, construction and start-up of a boil-off gas recovery system and fifth LNG storage tank of the plant.

Commissioned in 1987, the terminal supplies loading and unloading facilities for LNG carriers and has the capacity to handle all types of LNG carriers including Q-Flex carriers which have a capacity of about 217,000m³ of LNG.
