Enbridge, Enbridge Energy Partners, and Midcoast Energy Partners have launched an online training programme to help emergency services deal with pipeline disasters.
Developed in partnership with the National Emergency Number Association (NENA), the training will be useful for personnel serving areas along Enbridge’s onshore pipeline systems throughout the US and Canada, including the Enbridge-operated Vector pipeline system.

The one-hour training programme includes material developed by NENA and the National Association of State Fire Marshals (NASFM). It covers the basics of crude oil and natural gas gathering as well as transmission pipeline operations.
Enbridge Enterprise safety and operational reliability senior vice president Cynthia Hansen said that 911 call takers and dispatchers play a key role in keeping communities safe during emergencies.
"We are committed to providing them, and emergency responders of all disciplines, with the training and information they need to initiate a safe and effective response to a pipeline incident," Hansen added.
Call takers and dispatchers can use the programme to better visualise how to initiate a response to pipeline incidents. It features 3D interactive graphics and includes real-life scenarios, from which dispatchers can learn to recognise the warning signs of a potential pipeline emergency.
