Under the terms of the agreement, Eni will have to submit the result of the studies within six months.
NIOC development and engineering affairs deputy managing director Gholamreza Manouchehri said: "Eni have done a remarkable job in Cairo and Mediterranean region both as far as the quality and the speed of work are concerned and it is worthy of trust to be given the two fields of Kish and Darquain for study."
The company has already signed agreements on the two fields with Royal Dutch Shell, Russia’s Gazprom, Philippines’ PNOC and Ghadir Investment Company.
Eni was previously engaged in the development of several oil and gas projects in Iran before US-led sanctions prevented oil companies from investing in the country.
