ExxonMobil has awarded the first global licence of its patented Drilling Advisory System, an essential component of its Fast Drill technology suite, to Pason Systems.

This licensing agreement will speed up the commercialisation of this technology by combining Pason’s expertise in drilling data along with ExxonMobil’s experience in drilling surveillance and optimisation.

ExxonMobil upstream research company president Tom Schuessler said: “Energy producers today are looking for any opportunities to improve operational efficiency and reduce costs.

“The drilling advisory system component to our efficient fast drill technology provides such an opportunity by enhancing monitoring and improving drilling performance, therefore reducing costs.”

Fast Drill technology utilises high-end modelling of drilling physics with structured well planning and design to optimise performance.

The Drilling Advisory System improved ExxonMobil’s drilling performance in nine fields and helps in implementing the fast drill process in real time on the rig floor by integrating its proprietary modelling with data analytics.

ExxonMobil’s fast drill process has resulted in an annual energy savings equivalent to removing 1,200 cars from the road.
