Switzerland-based Foster Wheeler has secured an engineering and procurement contract from Petron Corporation for a refinery upgrade project in the Philippines.
A unit of the company’s Global Engineering and Construction Group will execute detailed engineering and procurement services for the delayed coker unit (DCU) of the refinery in Bataan. The company will also be responsible for the engineering and material supply of two double-fired Terrace Wall coker heaters for the project.

The DCU, which is a key part of this Petron Refinery Master Plan-2 Project, will have a design capacity of 37,500 barrels per stream day.
Foster Wheeler chief operating officer Umberto della Sala said that the contract reflects Petron’s confidence in the added value that his company will bring to the project.
This contract follows a previous award for the process design package and technology licence for the DCU that will use Foster Wheeler’s selective yield delayed coking process. This process is used to upgrade heavy residue feed and process it into high value transport fuels.
Petron Corporation, an oil refining and marketing firm, unveiled its plan last year to upgrade the Bataan refinery, with completion by the end of 2014. The company said that the refinery upgrade project will enhance its capability to supply the increasing demand for white products such as LPG, petrol and diesel, and petrochemicals.
