Ghana’s $750m Atuabo gas processing plant is set to be completed by 31 March, according to Minister for Energy and Petroleum Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah.

The project, which commenced in the last quarter of 2011, is being undertaken by Sinopec and is expected to commence production in June or July. Following completion, tests will be performed on the pipes to find out whether there were any leaks.

Buah noted that work on the project had progressed well since the last meeting of the Task Force.

"We are sure the project would be completed before the March 31 deadline," Buah added.

Ghana Gas Company chief executive officer George Sipa Yankey said that equipment for the project is not in place and will be airlifted in to meet the completion deadline.

Mid-stream gas business company Ghana Gas was set up following recommendations by a Gas Development Task Force commissioned by late President Mills, to build, own and operate infrastructure required for the gathering, processing, transporting and marketing of natural gas resources in the country.
