US-based Ingevity has introduced a new line of biodegradable solvents known as EnvaSolv to be used in oilfield applications.
EnvaSolv products are terpene-based solvents that dissolve wax and asphaltene build-up in wellbore, surface and pipeline systems and prevent downtime.

The new product line has similar performance characteristics to d-limonene-based solvents and benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, as well as xylene (BTEX) solvents.
However, the line serves as an environmentally friendly option with stable pricing when compared to d-limonene-based solvents as it is derived from pine chemicals and is easier and safer to handle compared to BTEX solvents.
Ingevity oilfield business development and innovation global director Todd Schroeder said: “Historically, the oilfield industry has been forced to choose between using environmentally friendly products or products with more stable pricing.
“We are excited to offer a product line that offers both of these characteristics.”
