The contract will start in January 2015 and run for a firm six-month term with an option to extend for a further two months.
The jack-up rig is expected to drill 12 to 14 development wells in the Wassana oilfield in G10/48 and various exploration wells in the contract area.
It will then be moved to G6/48 to complete appraisal drilling in the Rossukon area where oil was found in 2009.
KrisEnergy exploration and production director Chris Gibson-Robinson said: "Securing the Key Gibraltar is a critical step in the Wassana development schedule and means that we are on target to deliver first oil production in the second half of 2015.

By GlobalData"Given the Wassana development drilling programme, we have decided to coordinate the timing of exploration and appraisal drilling in G10/48 and G6/48 respectively, in order to optimise our drilling operations and costs."
The G10/48 concession, which is wholly owned by KrisEnergy, covers 4696km² over the southern section of the Pattani basin.
The licence consists of three oil discoveries, Wassana, Niramai and Mayura, which are in several stages of development and appraisal.
G6/48 covers 566km² in the Karawake basin on the southern margin of the Pattani Basin and the north-west margin of the Malay Basin.
