MAN Diesel & Turbo has been awarded a contract to deliver compressors and turbines by Dangote Group to a refinery being built in Nigeria.

Under the awarded contract, Germany-based MAN Diesel & Turbo will deliver two compressor trains to Nigerian Dangote Oil Refining Company, which will be utilised at the refinery in Lagos.

Dangote Corporation is currently constructing one of the largest refineries in Africa at the Lekki Free Trade Zone of Lagos, with an investment of $12bn.

The refinery is expected to fulfil Nigeria’s 100% fuel requirement.

MAN Diesel & Turbo member of the executive board and chief sales officer Wayne Jones said: “This is a milestone project and will have a huge impact on the economy of not only Nigeria but the whole of the West African region.

The MAN Diesel & Turbo machinery trains will comprise an axial compressor driven by a steam turbine with about 30MW of power.

It will be delivered with the auxiliary package to be used in operating the refinery process of Fluid Catalytic Cracking (FCC) to support fuel production.

The contract also includes erection and commissioning of the machinery trains, which will be developed at MAN Diesel & Turbo’s turbomachinery technology site in Germany.

The delivery is expected in the course of next year, while the refinery is expected to be commissioned in 2019.
