OGDCL drilled the well to a depth of 3,983m, with an aim to test the hydrocarbon potential of Basal Sands of Lower Goru formation.
Following the drilling’s completion, the company found significant hydrocarbon reserves in the Thal West No 1 well.
OGDCL said that the zone has produced 17.2 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas through 36in / 64in choke at well head flowing pressure (WHFP) = 2,820 pounds per square inch gauge (psig).
The new discovery is expected to add a gas reserve base to the company and country.

By GlobalDataIn January this year, OGDCL discovered gas at Thal East -1 well in Block 2769-15 in Sukkur.
The well was drilled down to the depth of 4,468m, targeting to test the hydrocarbon potential of massive and basal sands of lower goru formation.
The zone has produced 23.50MMSCFD of gas through 36in / 64in choke at well head flowing pressure of 3,820psig.
One more zone in lower goru formation sand was also available for testing.
