North America emerged at the top with the highest refining capacity under maintenance in the year’s first quarter, says a report by GlobalData. With a refining capacity of 2,290mbd (including planned and unplanned maintenance), the region was the leader followed by South America (1,066mbd) and Asia (967mbd).

Titled ‘Q1 2016 Global Refinery Maintenance Review – North America Records Highest Refining Capacity Under Maintenance in the Quarter‘, the report mentions that among countries, the US (2,290mbd), Venezuela (995mbd) and Taiwan (540mbd) recorded the highest refining capacities under maintenance (both planned and unplanned).

The refineries with the most capacity under planned and unplanned maintenance were Venezuela’s Paraguana (955mbd), Port Arthur II (569mbd) in the US, and Mailiao (540mbd) in Taiwan.

The regions with the highest refining capacity under planned maintenance were North America (1,945mbd), Asia (667mbd) and the Middle East (387mbd), while country-wise US (1,945mbd) was the leader followed by Taiwan (540mbd) and Kuwait (270mbd).

Under unplanned maintenance, South America was the most affected with 995mbd followed by North America (345mbd) and Asia (300mbd). Among the countries in this category, Venezuela (955mbd) had the highest refining capacity under unplanned maintenance along with the US (345mbd) and India (300mbd).

The refineries most affected by unplanned maintenance included Venezuela’s Paraguana (955mbd), Beaumont (345mbd) in the US, and India’s Paradip (300mbd).

The GlobalData report also mentions that globally Petroleos de Venezuela (955mbd) and Motiva Enterprises LLC (796mbd) had the highest refining capacity under maintenance as operators.
