A total of 22 new liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers have been announced globally in the fiscal year second half of 2016, with Teekay LNG Partners leading in planned capacity, according to a report by GlobalData.

Dynagas is a global leader in the number of LNG carriers announced at five, followed by Mitsui OSK Lines with four, and Maran Gas Maritime and Mitsui & Co with three carriers each.

In terms of LNG carrier storage capacity, Teekay LNG Partners has the highest planned capacity at 3.3 million cubic metres, followed by Mitsui OSK Lines with 2.7 million cubic metres and Maran Gas Maritime with 2.2 million cubic metres.

A total of 16 new crude oil tankers have been announced globally in the fiscal year second half of 2016, including four each by Euronav, Frontline Management and Viken Shipping, followed by two each by Almi Tankers and BW Group.

The top operators in terms of planned oil tanker DWT include The National Shipping Company of Saudi Arabia, Maran Tankers Management and Gener8 Maritime with a planned DWT of three million tonnes, 1.9 million tonnes and 1.5 million tonnes respectively.

Three new liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tankers have been announced in the fiscal year second half of 2016 with Unique Shipping Group, MJL Bangladesh and Wisdom Marine Lines announcing one tanker each.

The Hyundai LPG tanker announced by Unique Shipping Group will have the highest storage capacity of 84,000m³, followed by Wisdom Marine Line’s Wisdom LPG IV with 6,000m³, and MJL Bangladesh’s Omera King with 645m³.

Top operators in terms of planned LPG tanker storage capacity globally will be Eletson Corporation, BW Group, and KSS Line with storage capacities of 620,000m³, 420,000m³ and 328,000m³ respectively.
