US firms Schlumberger and IBM have joined forces to offer integrated services to upstream oil and gas customers through combining their solutions.
The combination of Schlumberger’s production optimisation services and Avocet production operations software platform with IBM’s enterprise asset management and enterprise services is expected to improve the business impact of production operations projects.

Schlumberger Software Integrated Solutions president Uwem Ukpong said: "Our customers have high expectations of the business impact of integrated production operations projects and in the current financial climate the demand for return on investment is stronger than ever.
"The alliance with IBM will drive production excellence beyond engineering to all workflows across the production operations business lifecycle."
The service is expected to provide improved productivity and cost management to customers across operational areas that include production optimisation and flow assurance, as well as unifiying the decision environment to provide the support critical for productivity in current oilfield operations.
Other areas to benefit include logistics, scheduling, HSE, human resources, equipment monitoring and maintenance.

Using the combination of production optimisation workflows with enterprise business processes, multidisciplinary solution teams will be able to implement customised business offerings, Schlumberger said.
