Oil and gas company SDX Energy has begun drilling operations on the SD-1X well at its South Disouq concession located in the Nile Delta area of Egypt.
The drilling campaign is targeting gas in the upper Abu Madi section and oil in the lower AEB & Abu Roash sections.

Drilling operation is expected to take around 30 to 45 days to be completed, depending on what the well encounters in the targeted intervals.
SDX president and CEO Paul Welch said: “We are extremely pleased to announce the start of this drilling campaign, as well as the extension to the exploration period.
“This is one of several activities across the expanded SDX portfolio that has the potential to further increase our reserve base and ultimately add to our high margin production base.
“We look forward to providing updates over the course of the campaign.”

By GlobalDataSDX Energy also informed that after the commencement of the campaign, it has secured a six month extension to the first exploration period scheduled to end on 19 September this year.
The extension will give the company sufficient time to analyse and evaluate the SD-1X well results before taking the decision to commence second exploration period at South Disouq.
