Oil and gas company SDX Energy has begun drilling operations on the SD-1X well at its South Disouq concession located in the Nile Delta area of Egypt.

The drilling campaign is targeting gas in the upper Abu Madi section and oil in the lower AEB & Abu Roash sections.

Drilling operation is expected to take around 30 to 45 days to be completed, depending on what the well encounters in the targeted intervals.

SDX Energy also informed that after the commencement of the campaign, it has secured a six month extension to the first exploration period scheduled to end on 19 September this year.

The extension will give the company sufficient time to analyse and evaluate the SD-1X well results before taking the decision to commence second exploration period at South Disouq.

SDX Energy has 50% working interest in two producing assets at North West Gemsa and Meseda, located onshore Egypt's Eastern Desert.
