The study will assess the condition of the 140,000bpd refinery in Basra in southern Iraq, and will estimate the engineering, equipment supply and construction services required to improve the refinery’s operation.

Shaw Energy & Chemicals Group president James Glass said the feasibility study will help promote the development of Iraq’s oil business and modernise vital facilities.

"This is Shaw’s fourth refining project in Iraq, reinforcing our continuing commitment to the Middle East region," Glass said.

Shaw is now conducting feasibility studies and front end engineering and design (FEED) for two grassroots 150,000bpd refineries for Iraq’s Ministry of Oil.
