Africa and Europe-focused upstream gas company Sound Energy has initiated drilling of the third Tendrara well located in onshore Morocco.

The first two wells (TE-6 and TE-7) drilled at the site were successful. The third well (TE-8) was spud on 19 February and is a step-out appraisal well located approximately 12km north-east of the TE-7.

By drilling the third well, Sound Energy intends to identify significant additional volumes in the TAGI (Trias Argilo-Gréseux Inférieur) reservoir. It has also planned to drill deeper into the Paleozoic formation.

The TE-8 main well bore will be drilled and logged to a true vertical depth (TVD) of nearly 2,975m. It is expected to take nearly 40 to 50 days.

A further 30-day sidetrack will be drilled to a TVD of approximately 2,633m to prove a potentially deeper gas contact around 900m to the north-west, assuming that the well bore encounters gas.

The company will be updating its shareholders about the progress and results of the three casing points (13 3in / 8in casing at 450m TVD, 12¼in casing at 2,070m TVD and 7in casing at 2,587m TVD) in the main well bore and achievement of total depth.
