
Norwegian oil and gas operator Statoil has chosen GE’s Proficy SmartSignal predictive-diagnostic software and services in a bid to improve the uptime and reliability of heavy rotating equipment such as gas turbines, generators and compressors.
Statoil has selected the software from GE’s industrial performance and reliability centre (Industrial-PRC) and intends to implement it as part of the company’s condition monitoring predictive analytics (CMPA) solution, initially for its offshore fleet.

GE’s Proficy SmartSignal is said to have demonstrated timely payback while ensuring consistent implementation quality.
In the initial phase, GE completed the rollout and ‘go live’ of the 50 equipment assets.
GE intelligent platforms industrial data intelligence business general manager Brian Courtney said: "The Industrial-PRC is staffed with oil and gas experts, which provides low risk and high value to Statoil by ensuring the proper adoption of the SmartSignal solution.

By GlobalDataAccording to GE, the company’s predictive-diagnostic software identifies equipment problems and helps avoid unexpected shutdowns, while matching well with existing work processes and software tools used by Statoil’s condition monitoring centre.
Proficy software uses prioritised, ‘apparent cause’ diagnostics to identify developing faults.
Statoil is currently considering expansion of the software to onshore and across its other regional business units.
GE’s Industrial-PRC processes terabytes of data to predict equipment failures and monitors on more than 50 sites and 4,000 assets worldwide.
