Spain-based general contractor Tecnicas Reunidas has awarded a contract to Technip to supply three hydrogen reformers for Petronas’ Refinery and Petrochemical Integrated Development (RAPID) project in Johor, Malaysia.
Under the terms of the contract, the hydrogen reformers would be supplied as part of the hydrogen production facility at the project.

The reformers, which will serve as the heart of the hydrogen plant, would produce 344,500 Nm³/h(2) of hydrogen and syngas products and are expected to come on-stream in 2018.
The plant will supply quality export steam to the refinery steam network.
Petronas’ green-field downstream undertaking in Malaysia, RAPID, along with its six associated facilities forms the pengerang integrated complex (PIC).
The facilities include the pengerang co-generation plant, LNG re-gasification terminal, air separation unit, raw water supply project, the liquid bulk terminal and the central and shared utilities and facilities.

Technip Stone & Webster Process Technology president Stan Knez said: "We are delighted that our proprietary steam methane reforming technology has been selected for this PETRONAS RAPID site, which will be one of the largest hydrogen and syngas production facilities in the Asia Pacific region."
In October 2014, Technip and Fluor secured an engineering, procurement and construction management contract by PRPC Utilities and Facilities for the RAPID project.
Under the contract, the companies were responsible for the utilities, interconnecting and offsites (UIO) scope of work.
