The NAO vessels will be hull numbers 303 and 304 at Ulstein Verft, which has five vessels on order at present.

NAO invested in six vessels of the PX121 design in December 2013, and the new vessels will be numbers seven and eight, which the company will buy from Ulstein.

Previous vessels, which were constructed at Ulstein Verft, have all been working on firm contracts in the North Sea, and the total value of the eight vessels is said to exceed NOK2bn ($327.37m).

Ulstein Group CEO Gunvor Ulstein said: "We are very pleased that Nordic American Offshore has chosen ULSTEIN when expanding their fleet of PSVs."

Ulstein has currently sold 18 PX121 vessels in total.

"Ulstein has currently sold 18 PX121 vessels in total."

Ten vessels are said to be constructed or under construction at yards in China or south-east Asia.

Ulstein said it decided to focus on these ship types after carefully evaluating the market.

Considered medium-sized in the North Sea, the PSVs have an optimum combination of fuel efficiency and deadweight.

With a capacity and performance that approaches those of larger vessels, the PSVs can take on most of the tasks usually handled by slightly larger PSVs.
