Canadian natural gas storage, transmission and distribution company Union Gas has been granted approval by the Ontario Energy Board for the expansion of its natural gas pipeline and compression facilities with an investment of $425m.
The facilities comprise of around 14km of 48in-diameter pipelines southeast of the city of Cambridge, along the company’s existing Dawn-Parkway transmission system and two associated natural gas compressors at a new Parkway West site in Milton. The facilities help to move natural gas supplies through the Ontario and eastern Canadian pipeline network.

Construction is expected to begin in spring, contingent on National Energy Board Approval of related pipeline facilities. Completion would be slated during autumn 2015.
The company’s Dawn-Parkway transmission system enables the transfer of natural gas to Toronto from its hub near Sarnia.
The system interconnects with other pipelines and serves eastern Canadian and US markets.
Located at the Parkway West site, the natural gas compression facilities will also provide the required reliability to deliver increased natural gas supplies to more than five million residents in Toronto, as well as eastern Canada and the US.
