China Oil & Gas Piping Network (PipeChina) has opened the middle section of the natural gas pipeline from Russia to boost supplies from the Power of Siberia pipeline system.
According to a Reuters report, this section of the China-Russia East gas pipeline will enable gas supplies to the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region in northern China, adding around 27 million cubic metres of deliveries every day.

The 1,100km-long pipeline section stretches from Changling city in Jilin to Yongqing city in Hebei, the news agency added citing a PipeChina statement.
It also have connections with existing gas pipelines in north-eastern and northern China, and gas storage projects in Dalian, Tangshan and Liaohe.
The launch of the services is expected to improve air quality in the region as well as support economic development.
The move comes after the northern part of the China-Russia East gas pipeline commenced operations in December last year. It has delivered around four billion cubic metres (bcm) natural gas.

By GlobalDataConstruction works on the southern section, which will extend the pipeline to Shanghai in eastern China, began in July.
Once completed in 2025, the pipeline will enable transfer of up to 38bcm of clean supplies annually.
Overall, the pipeline has a 3,000km section in Russia and stretches around 5,111km.
According to China Daily, the China-Russia East natural gas pipeline is the third cross-border natural gas pipeline in the country. The other two are China-Central Asia gas pipeline and the China-Myanmar gas pipeline.
