The contract extension enables Wood’s teams to continue working closely with Saudi Aramco to develop engineering design and implementation strategies for producing and delivering gas from shale and tight gas reservoirs.

Focus on unconventional gas is a key part of Saudi Arabia’s strategy to meet its growing energy needs.

Wood said that developing unconventional resources requires logistics, which differ from those that of standard conventional gas reserves.

Wood Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia Asset Solutions CEO Dave Stewart said: “We are delighted to continue our role as the main engineering services provider on this programme.

“Saudi Aramco is a strategically important customer in the region, and we look forward to continuing our close partnership with them and furthering our commitment to building capability in-Kingdom.

“This extension demonstrates Saudi Aramco’s confidence in our teams in Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia, and in our centre of excellence in Reading, UK, to deliver safe, on-time and efficient solutions to meet and exceed requirements on this uniquely challenging project.”

In February 2018, Saudi Aramco awarded a five-year contract to Wood for the development of the Marjan oil field in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s eastern province.

Under this contract, Wood provides engineering and project management services for the field.
