Glenfarne Alaska, a subsidiary of Glenfarne Group and the majority owner and lead developer of the Alaska LNG project, has initiated the final engineering phase for the Alaska LNG Pipeline.

Worley will build upon the substantial engineering work already completed, updating the pipeline's cost and design.

The company has also been chosen as the preferred engineering company for the Cook Inlet Gateway LNG import terminal and will serve as the project delivery advisor to Glenfarne across the Alaska LNG projects.

Glenfarne Group CEO and founder Brendan Duval said: “The declining gas production from Cook Inlet risks Alaska’s energy security, as well as US national security and military readiness. Prioritising the development and final investment decision of the pipeline is essential to solving the natural gas shortages which are already impacting the state.”

In parallel with the final engineering, Glenfarne is seeking strategic partners.

The aim is to collaborate with global companies that can augment Glenfarne's execution capabilities and bring additional expertise to the Alaska LNG project's successful delivery.

The Alaska LNG Pipeline will span 807 miles with a 42in diameter, transporting natural gas from the North Slope to meet Alaska's domestic requirements and supply the 20 million-tonnes-per-annum Alaska LNG export facility.

The construction will occur in two phases, with the first phase covering approximately 765 miles to the Anchorage region, and the second phase adding necessary compression equipment and extending the pipeline under Cook Inlet to the Nikiski export facility.

Glenfarne expects to make the final investment decision on the Alaska LNG Pipeline by 2025.

Duval added: “Glenfarne is pushing Alaska LNG forward with expediency engaging prospective strategic partners. We are particularly proud to be expanding our relationship with Worley to Alaska LNG from our existing partnership on the Texas LNG project. Worley is one of the world’s largest and most experienced engineering and project delivery firms with a long history of success in Alaska.”
