Energy technology company Baker Hughes has secured a contract to supply main liquefaction equipment for Train 4 at NextDecade’s Rio Grande LNG Facility in Texas, US.

The contract was awarded by engineering company Bechtel Energy.

Earlier this month, NextDecade announced the final investment decision (FID) for Train 4 of the Rio Grande LNG project.

The contract for Train 4 encompasses two Frame 7 gas turbines and six centrifugal compressors, replicating the solutions used in the first three liquefied natural gas (LNG) trains.

These solutions offer energy efficiency and reduce emissions, contributing to an additional LNG capacity of roughly six million tonnes per annum (mtpa) and promoting sustainable energy development, stated Baker Hughes.

Bechtel LNG Business general manager Bhupesh Thakkar said: "Our selection of Baker Hughes again for the Rio Grande LNG project is a testament to its reliable technology and expertise.

"Their equipment has consistently supported the successful development of this critical infrastructure, and we look forward to their continued contribution to the project expansion."

This contract expands on an earlier announced framework agreement involving Baker Hughes’ gas turbine and refrigerant compressor technology, as well as the contractual services agreements for Trains 4 through 8.

Baker Hughes Industrial & Energy Technology executive vice-president Ganesh Ramaswamy said: “We are proud to continue our collaboration with Bechtel and NextDecade on the Rio Grande LNG project, a cornerstone of global energy security, affordability and sustainability.

“This order reinforces confidence in our proven technology and services to deliver reliable and efficient LNG operations. We look forward to supporting the successful execution of this phase of the project and helping drive sustainable energy development.”

In June, NextDecade’s subsidiaries finalised an updated engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract with Bechtel for Train 4 and also signed a new EPC agreement for Train 5 at the Rio Grande LNG project.
