Beetaloo Energy makes FID for Carpentaria Pilot Project in Australia

This decision follows a series of regulatory and stakeholder approvals, including an agreement with the Northern Land Council.

Beetaloo Energy Australia has made a final investment decision (FID) to proceed with the Carpentaria Pilot Project in Australia’s Northern Territory.

This decision follows a series of regulatory and stakeholder approvals.

Beetaloo Energy has reached an agreement with the Northern Land Council, representing the Mambaliya Rrumburriya Wuyaliya Aboriginal Land Trust, to enable the sale of appraisal gas.

All necessary environmental approvals were secured from the Northern Territory (NT) Government for the project, which includes the construction of the Carpentaria Gas Plant (CGP), associated in-field infrastructure, and the drilling, completion and tie-in of up to ten additional wells within exploration permit 187 (EP 187).

The company also entered into a gas sales agreement with the NT Government in 2024 and received authorisation for the beneficial use of test gas.

Beetaloo Energy stated that civil construction and upgrade activities at the CGP have already commenced using internal capital.

Beetaloo Energy managing director Alex Underwood said: “This is a landmark moment for Beetaloo Energy, allowing the company to commence gas sales from EP 187 in 2026.”

Underwood Further added: “We have separately commenced the process to drawdown the Macquarie Midstream Infrastructure Facility, which was announced in November 2024, and we intend to draw funds under that facility when required.

“This FID follows the incredible efforts of the Beetaloo Energy team whose tireless work is bringing this project to life.

“We deeply appreciate the support of our shareholders, financiers, the NT Government, the traditional owners of the land on which we operate, and our many supporters across the NT.

“They all understand the critical importance of the Beetaloo Basin to drive energy security and economic prosperity for the NT, Australia and the broader region for decades to come.”

Beetaloo Energy Australia recently secured federal approval to amend the exploration deed for its EP 187 permit, enabling the sale and beneficial use of gas.

The approval was granted under subsection 27 (3) of the Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act 1976.
