Pipetech, a flow remediation solution specialist, has introduced a groundbreaking downhole scale remediation (DSR) technology to transform wellbore cleaning solutions in the oil and gas sector.

The technology, which is supported by the Net Zero Technology Centre's (NZTC) emissions reduction programme, is designed to address the challenges of scale, wax and other deposits in wellbores.

The DSR solution utilises a rotational high-pressure water-jetting system, a shift from traditional chemical-based cleaning methods.

This innovative nozzle adjusts to the changing inner diameter (ID) of the wellbore, providing precise and efficient cleaning for safety valves, side pocket mandrels and other key areas.

Patented in the UK and the US, the DSR technology underwent proof of concept trials at Pipetech's facility in Aberdeen, Scotland in November 2024.

These trials were independently verified and further supported by client trials with leading energy operators, highlighting the technology's potential to boost production efficiency and minimise environmental impact.

In preparation for a 2025 launch, Pipetech is planning field trials to showcase the DSR's advantages over existing cleaning methods.

The trials will also assess the technology's performance in diverse field conditions, with global testing planned across redundant wells in the UK, Norway and other international locations.
