ExxonMobil Global Projects has awarded Sercel a one-year contract to deploy its Marlin solution at the Whiptail project in the Stabroek Block, offshore Guyana.

The Marlin platform will be used to help manage simultaneous operations (SIMOPS), supporting pipe-laying and mooring installation activities at the site.

The platform is a software tool designed to provide a live, time-based geospatial view of concurrent offshore activities.

According to Sercel, this system aims to increase vessel and asset awareness, enabling teams to plan, coordinate and execute multiple operations more safely in high-activity environments.

The tool also offers full-system configuration, onboarding, operational reviews and round-the-clock operational support.

Among the suite of services within the Marlin portfolio is Marlin VTA, which is designed to enhance safety and situational awareness.

Marlin Offshore Logistics aims to simplify logistics operations, while Marlin SmartPort optimises base and port activities by streamlining planning, scheduling and resource use.

Sercel CEO Jérôme Denigot said: “With offshore activity accelerating across Latin America, the Middle East, South East Asia and West Africa, our Marlin field-proven SIMOPS solution enables operators to better manage their most complex offshore developments.”

Whiptail, the sixth development on the Stabroek block, is projected to contribute roughly 250,000 barrels of daily capacity by the end of 2027.

Budgeted at around $12.7bn, the Whiptail project is expected to feature as many as ten drilling centres and a total of 48 production and injection wells.

ExxonMobil Guyana, an ExxonMobil affiliate, operates the Stabroek Block with a 45% stake. Hess Guyana Exploration holds 30%, while CNOOC Petroleum Guyana holds the remaining 25%.

ExxonMobil recently reported second-quarter 2026 (Q2 2026) earnings of $14.5bn, or $3.48 per share, with adjusted earnings at $14.7bn.

The company’s cash flow from operating activities reached $23.6bn in the quarter and free cash flow was reported at $17.2bn.

ExxonMobil also reported the final investment decision for a blending expansion in Louisiana. It also confirmed that the fifth floating production storage and offloading vessel destined for Guyana’s offshore sector would begin production as scheduled in Q4 2026.
