The US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has released the final supplemental environmental impact statement (FSEIS) for the Texas LNG export terminal.

Texas LNG, developed by Glenfarne Group's subsidiary in the Port of Brownsville, has successfully addressed air quality and environmental justice concerns.

The FSEIS marks the culmination of the FERC's analysis of these issues, as mandated by the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.

Texas LNG, a subsidiary of energy transition leader Glenfarne Energy Transition, is committed to establishing one of the world's cleanest liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facilities, utilising electric motor drives to reduce emissions.

Glenfarne CEO and founder Brendan Duval said: “The FERC final supplemental EIS for Texas LNG strengthens an already robust record of federal analysis and support and confirms the basis for the existing authorisation for this project.

“Texas LNG’s ‘green by design’ strategy uses electric motor drives to power the facility, making it one of the lowest-emitting liquefaction facilities in the world. Glenfarne and Texas LNG appreciate the efforts of FERC staff for concluding their thorough review of Texas LNG’s environmental and socioeconomic considerations.”

The anticipated FERC final order in November will reinforce Texas LNG's authorisation, which has undergone multiple rounds of review.

Glenfarne anticipates a final investment decision (FID) by the end of 2025, with customer offtake commitments already in place from notable companies such as EQT, Gunvor Group, Macquarie Group and a leading European utility.

Construction of the facility is being managed by Kiewit under a lump-sum turnkey agreement.

This latest development adds to Glenfarne's portfolio of federally authorised LNG projects, including Alaska LNG and Magnolia LNG, both of which are advancing towards FID.

Additionally, Glenfarne Alaska LNG has recently partnered with Thailand's PTT Public Company for the Alaska LNG project, securing a 20-year agreement for two million tonnes per annum of LNG.

Alaska LNG is overseen by 8 Star Alaska, a joint venture between Glenfarne Alaska LNG and the Alaska Gasline Development Corporation.
