TGS, an energy data and intelligence provider, has announced the commencement of a 3D seismic reprocessing project in the Krishna-Godavari Basin, India.

This initiative enhances the value of legacy data using advanced seismic processing, supporting ongoing exploration and licensing in one of India’s key hydrocarbon regions.

The KG Basin Mega 3D project covers 16,900km² of legacy 3D surveys and will employ advanced broadband seismic reprocessing techniques such as pre-stack time migration (PSTM), pre-stack depth migration (PSDM) and full waveform inversion (FWI).

The project's area includes 10,900km² of open acreage over the upcoming OALP-10 bid round blocks, enabling exploration and production companies to assess opportunities with greater clarity.

Scheduled to begin this month, the project aims to deliver final advanced seismic products by April 2026, with preliminary data expected in the second quarter of 2025.

TGS Multi-Client executive vice-president David Hajovsky commented: “The Krishna-Godavari Basin Mega 3D initiative demonstrates TGS' commitment to advancing exploration capabilities in India.

“By enhancing critical datasets with the latest seismic reprocessing technologies, we can provide new opportunities and support our clients in maximising the potential of this prolific basin.”

TGS, with a strong track record of successful projects like the East Coast India 2D-cubed programme, continues to address the emerging needs of the global energy industry.

In November 2024, TGS secured a 3D streamer contract from ONGC for the Mahanadi Basin survey offshore India’s east coast.

The contract will involve the deployment of the Ramform Sovereign seismic vessel for six months.

Also in October 2024, TGS partnered with Aker BP to digitalise operations at the Yggdrasil oil and gas area.

The collaboration focuses on enhancing field operations by integrating TGS' Prediktor data gateway into Aker BP's digital ecosystem.
