Perenco, through its wholly owned subsidiary PetroChad Mangara (PCM), has completed a 12-well drilling campaign at the Badila oilfield in Chad.

During the campaign, eight horizontal wells targeting the Upper Cretaceous reservoir were drilled, along with three water disposal wells and one appraisal well.

In addition, four gas turbines were installed, providing extra power generation from the field and improving processing capabilities to accommodate increased production from Badila.

With the completion of the campaign, Perenco’s total oil output in Chad from both the Badila and Mangara fields has reached more than 18,000 barrels of oil per day (bopd).

This exceeds the initial production target of 16,000bopd following the restart of operations three years ago.

The GWDC rig has now been relocated to PCM’s Krim development in the Doba Basin in southern Chad, where it will undertake a further eight-well drilling campaign.

PCM was established in 2012 and acquired by Perenco in June 2022. The technical capabilities of Perenco enabled the restart of the Badila and Mangara oilfields following a prolonged shutdown.

PetroChad Mangara general manager Eric Josseron said: “The success of the Badila campaign, and associated production increase of 7,000bopd, is an important operational milestone and the ongoing investment in drilling underpins our commitment to the country.

“The campaign was achieved safely and in close co-ordination with Société des Hydrocarbures du Tchad and the Ministry of Hydrocarbons. We are also pleased to have delivered a number of important community initiatives over recent months.

“These have been focused on the provision of health, education, clean energy for the hospital in Moundou and supporting biodiversity. These are all projects designed to have a meaningful and long-lasting positive impact in the areas close to our operations.”

In July this year, Perenco completed its acquisition of the Greater Angostura oil and gas assets in Trinidad & Tobago from Woodside Energy.

The deal included the acquisition of two Woodside Energy entities, their interests in the 2(C) and 3(A) production sharing contracts, and the operatorship of an onshore terminal.
