QatarEnergy has reached an agreement to supply liquified natural gas (LNG) to French energy major TotalEnergies.

The Qatar Government-backed company and TotalEnergies have signed two long-term LNG sale and purchase agreements for a duration of 27 years.

Under the terms of the agreement, QatarEnergy will supply 3.5 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of LNG to France.

With deliveries expected to begin in 2026, LNG will be delivered ex-ship by Qatar to the Fos Cavaou LNG receiving terminal in southern France.

The LNG will be supplied from the two joint ventures between TotalEnergies and QatarEnergy that have stakes in the North Field East (NFE) and North field South (NFS) projects in Qatar, the company said.

TotalEnergies’ share in the North Field LNG Expansion Projects comprises a 9.37% stake in the NFS project and a 6.25% stake in the NFE project.

QatarEnergy president and CEO Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi said: “The State of Qatar has been supplying the French market with LNG since 2009, and the new agreements reflect the joint effort of two trusted partners, QatarEnergy and TotalEnergies, to provide reliable and credible LNG supply solutions to customers across the globe.

“Our commitment to ensure continued and reliable supplies of energy to Europe and the rest of the world is underpinned by our substantial and ongoing investments across the entire gas value chain.

“Our efforts span from bolstering production capacity in Qatar to the development of the Golden Pass LNG export project in the United States, in addition to our commitments in various LNG receiving terminals in Europe, including the Montoir-de-Bretagne LNG Terminal in France.”

In September 2023, QatarEnergy signed a ten-year naphtha sales agreement with Japanese company Marubeni Petroleum.

Starting October 2023, QatarEnergy will supply up to 1.2mtpa of naphtha to Marubeni.
