Reelwell has been awarded a multi-year contract by Vår Energi to deploy its DualLink powered digital drill pipe technology offshore on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS).
Under the contract, Reelwell and Odfjell Technology will deploy DualLink in offshore operations on the NCS for the first time.
The initial contract covers one year of operations on the COSLPioneer rig, with the possibility of four one-year extensions.
It also includes an option to expand to all Vår Energi installations across the North Sea, based on future operational needs.
Under the agreement, Reelwell will ensure the overall delivery, including the advanced DualLink technology, which enables instant surface control and improved functionality of downhole tools.
The DualLink system combines real-time telemetry with wellbore power, offering better operational control and uninterrupted power to downhole tools.
This unique blend of wellbore power and real-time telemetry enables Reelwell to monitor and analyse critical drilling data, supporting continuous optimisation of wellbore operations on the rig.
By powering traditionally mechanically operated tools in the bottom hole assembly (BHA), it eliminates the need for batteries and turbines, enabling instant surface control and improved functionality.
This advancement enhances data transmission, ensuring more precise and reliable operations throughout the drilling and well process.
Odfjell Technology will supply drill pipe components, and handle maintenance, logistics and on-site support for the COSLPioneer rig.
This collaboration with Reelwell, their first contract since the 2024 partnership, aims to enhance drilling efficiency and technology.

Last week, Vår Energi signed a partnership agreement with Aker Solutions for NCS projects, aiming to generate value through collaborative planning and efficient execution.
The partnership includes Honeywell and StS-ISONOR, leveraging a proven model to foster integrated teamwork and shared goals.
