Samsung C&T chooses Worley for Qatar CO₂ sequestration project

Worley will carry out the engineering work from its office in Qatar.

Worley has secured a contract from Samsung C&T Corporation to provide detailed engineering services for a carbon dioxide (CO₂) sequestration project in Qatar.

The company previously completed the front-end engineering design phase for the QatarEnergy LNG CO₂ project.

The initiative intends to permanently store approximately 4.3 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of CO₂.

Worley will carry out the engineering work from its office in Qatar, with additional input from its Global Integrated Delivery centre in India and technical teams in Australia.

QatarEnergy’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) sequestration project aims to contribute to the region’s efforts to lower greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through permanent CO₂ storage.

Worley offers engineering, project and asset management solutions in the energy, resources and chemicals sectors.

Worley CEO Chris Ashton said: “We are proud to continue our collaboration with Samsung C&T on this landmark project. This award reflects our capability in CCUS [carbon capture, utilisation and storage] and our commitment to supporting our customers as they invest in technologies that help decarbonise energy production.”

In June 2025, Glenfarne selected Worley to provide engineering services and a final cost estimate for the Alaska LNG Pipeline project, supporting its financial investment decision.

The Alaska LNG Pipeline project included plans for a 1,300km natural gas pipeline extending from Alaska’s North Slope to its southern coast near Anchorage. This development incorporated a gas treatment facility and LNG import and export terminals.

The pipeline is projected to transport enough natural gas to meet local demand in Alaska while supplying the full 20mtpa capacity of the export facility.
