Technip Energies has secured an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for Commonwealth LNG’s 9.5 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, US.
The deal involves the delivery of six identical liquefaction trains leveraging Technip Energies’ SnapLNG solution, which is designed to be scalable and modular.
Technip Energies CEO Arnaud Pieton said: “We are honoured to be awarded the Commonwealth LNG project, which is a testament to our world-leading expertise in modularised LNG solutions. This project is pivotal in enhancing global energy security by ensuring a reliable and efficient supply of LNG.
“We are eager to leverage our world-class experience in LNG projects associated with our SnapLNG by T.EN innovative modular and productised approach to contribute to the success of this critical energy initiative."
The use of SnapLNG by Technip Energies aims to accelerate the project schedule and optimise costs through the replication of a single design across all six trains.
This approach is expected to provide greater predictability and certainty at scale, distinguishing it from the more common 'stick-built' construction method used in the US.
Technip Energies had earlier completed front-end engineering and design activities for the project, which will have five 50,000m³ storage tanks and be able to accommodate vessels up to 216,000m³.
Gas supply will be through a three-mile pipeline interconnected to two major pipeline systems with surplus transportation capacity.
Commonwealth LNG president and CEO Farhad Ahrabi said: “We are pleased to have reached this critical milestone in our project’s development as we expand our relationship with Technip Energies through the formal award of an EPC contract, that also includes limited notice to proceed.
“Utilising Technip Energies’ fully modular approach to construction as compared to the commonly used stick-built LNG facilities being developed in the US will enable us to ensure first-class project execution with certainty of outcome on both cost and schedule for all our stakeholders.”
Earlier in the year, the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission reaffirmed its final order authorising Commonwealth LNG’s export project.
The company expects to make a final investment decision on the project in the latter half of this year, with production expected to commence in 2029.
